The Duckworth Worcestershire Trust (DWT) has sold Chapter Meadows after difficult period.

The riverside site has been owned by the trust for more than 25 years.

The trust announced the sale to philanthropist Tom Greenway and his publishing company, 3DTotal Publishing, on August 9.

3dtotal Publishing was founded in Worcester in 1999 and now employs 17 staff.

Their books and magazines are sold worldwide and focus on Art and Design.

In the past few years, the trust has experienced some challenges, which led to the closure of some of its operations.

Mr Greenway plans to continue the legacy of DWT and recognises how important the site is for people in the area.

He plans to enhance the ecological value of Chapter Meadows and improve public access.

Mr Greenway aims to achieve this by collaborating with volunteer groups like the Worcester Environmental Group (WEG).

Beatrice Duckworth, widow of the trust's founder, Cecil Duckworth, said: "We were pleased to sell the site to Tom, as like Cecil, he is a successful local businessman wanting to make a positive impact on nature and people."

She added that they looked at several options and we felt that the site is in a very safe pair of hands for the future.

The trust also revealed that the proceeds from the sale will be distributed to projects and community groups.

The DWT intends to establish a community grant scheme in the coming months.

The scheme will offer grants to projects that aim to improve the natural environment and encourage sustainable living.

The DWT was founded in 1998 by businessman and philanthropist Cecil Duckworth.

It has played a vital role in the city through environmental improvement projects.

It has also managed several natural assets in the city including Chapter Meadows.

Under the ownership of DWT, the trust has undertaken a programme of restoration projects.

Work has included ditch clearance, replanting of native hedgerows along original boundaries, and installation of bridges, stock-proof fencing, access gates and a flood-level indicator.

Chapter Meadows was originally owned by the Priory of Worcester from at least the 13th century.
