A brand new Worcester ukulele band got audiences swaying as they raised hundreds of pounds for a good cause.

The newly formed band, Songbirds, performed in support of children's charity the Acorns Children's Hospice.

Songbirds is the performing arm of the Ukulele Friends of Worcester (UFOW), led by ukulele veteran, Colin Box.

The foursome performed for spectators during the Worcester Festival, with four gigs that drummed up £419.10 for the hospice, thanks to the generosity of the audience.

UFOW topped up the donations with another £88.90 from previous charity collections, to hand over £500 to the children's charity.

Box said: "I was delighted with our performances.

"We played great songs, there was plenty of camaraderie, banter, and fun.

"Throughout the Worcester Festival, our audiences- young and old alike– were singing, and often dancing, along.

"There were lots of great comments including ‘terrific’ and ‘really fun music’."

UFOW meets at the notable Christopher Whitehead Language College in Worcester for Songbird sing-alongs.

The group welcomes gig enquiries and is open to musicians and singers who wish to join.
