A significant rise in rogue tradespeople has been reported in the Midlands.
Checkatrade, the UK's leading home improvement platform, has revealed a 54 per cent increase in unsuccessful applications from rogue traders in the region.
This is part of a UK-wide trend where a record 668 tradespeople failed to meet the platform's stringent vetting checks, marking a 13 per cent year-on-year increase.
Despite this, the Midlands is home to more than 3,000 trusted professionals on Checkatrade.
Amar Patel, general manager at Checkatrade, said: "The rise in rogue trades is a concerning trend, particularly in the Midlands, which has seen one of the highest increases in failed membership applications across the country.
"However, it’s important for people to remember that there is also a thriving community of trusted tradespeople here in the Midlands who have been vetted by Checkatrade and are easily accessible through our platform."
