WORCESTER City Council is set to appoint a new returning officer.
The post is a crucial part of the democratic process as the returning officer is responsible for overseeing elections.
Current returning officer Shane Flynn, corporate director of finance and resources, is due to retire from the council in November.
Councillors will be asked to appoint a replacement at next week’s full council meeting and the recommendation is that Sian Stroud, corporate director of planning and governance, takes the role.
Officers are also recommending she takes over from Mr Flynn as electoral registration officer, the person responsible for maintaining the electoral register.
