Two businesses in Droitwich have been given more than £10,500 to improve their shop fronts.

Nelly's Yard and Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy, both on the high street, received the funding from Wychavon District Council.

The money is part of the Business Front Improvement grant, a joint initiative by Wychavon and the Droitwich Spa Place Board.

The scheme provides half of the renovation costs needed to upgrade shop fronts.

It is funded through Wychavon's share of the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which supports town centres.

Councillor Richard Morris, executive board member for economic growth and tourism on the council, said: "Keeping Droitwich Spa an attractive place to visit for residents and tourists alike is a priority and I am delighted we have been able to use our part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to make these and many other improvements to our high street."

Matt Nicol, chair of the Droitwich Spa Place Board, said: "The improvements made will have an impact on our high street, it’s going to help showcase the town’s historic architecture and character.

"We’re proud to be part of this."

Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy received £5,300 for new signage, repainting, and repairs to rotten wood and white plaster.

Nick Rudge, owner of the Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy, said: "I am extremely grateful for the council’s scheme, it has improved the look of my business and the high street.

"The fund has helped to revive and restore the building's appearance and reinstate the traditional shop frontage features."

Nelly's Yard was given £5,475 to clean and fill render, replace woodwork, and repaint the shop front.

Mary Gandy, landlord of Nelly’s Yard, said: "The building looks so much better now that the renovation works have been completed.

"I’m proud of my business, and the frontage is so much more inviting."

Applications to the Business Improvement Scheme are now closed.

The council and the board are currently assessing four more applications from the area.
