A new electrical apprenticeship programme is being launched to support careers in the growing electrotechnical sector.
Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) has announced a City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (Installation or Maintenance) that will begin in November 2025 and will be delivered over 42 weeks at its Worcester campus.
The programme is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to start a professional career in the electrical industry.
Mo Horan, vice principal at HoW College, said: "This new electrical apprenticeship reflects our continued commitment to delivering industry-relevant, skills-focused training.
"We’ve worked closely with sector needs to develop a high-quality programme that meets national standards and also provides meaningful progression for individuals and value for employers."
The apprenticeship will offer hands-on experience in custom-built workshops, guided by experienced industry tutors.
Learners will use advanced equipment and testing bays designed to simulate real-world domestic and commercial electrical environments.
The course covers installation practices, fault diagnosis, inspection, testing, and compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
Assessment will include end-point evaluations, practical and theory tests, online exams, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence.
Recognition of prior learning will be available for those with relevant industry experience.
Upon successful completion, apprentices will be eligible to apply for an ECS Gold Card and can progress to higher education, including degrees in electrical engineering.
Additional CPD courses such as the Inspection and Testing (2391) and BS 7671 wiring regulations modules are available, along with the Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396).
The programme is open to applicants with a minimum Grade 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Applications must be submitted via the Apprenticeship Government Website.
