BLACK smoke was pouring out of a building on an industrial estate as neighbours were alerted by the sounds of sirens.
Ten firefighters entered Reddiplex on the Berry Hill Industrial Estate to tackle a rubber fire after smoke was spotted by passers-by this morning at 6.15am (Wednesday).
Fire crews were at the scene for more than two hours and blocked Berry Hill link road to access a fire hydrant.
Simon Carter, who was walking to work at the time, said: "I live nearby and I heard the sirens this morning but didn't know what was happening.
"Hopefully, everyone is ok. This is a very unusual sight on my way to work."
There was still a strong smell of burning at around 8am and smoke could still be seen billowing out of a first-floor window.
Reddiplex, a rubber and plastic extrusions manufacturer, has been approached for comment but had not provided a response before publication.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Four crews – one each from Droitwich, Worcester, Bromsgrove, and Wyre Forest Fire Stations – plus the Wyre Forest incident command vehicle, were called at 6.15am on July 30 to smoke issue at a unit on Berry Hill Industrial Estate, Droitwich.
"A fire was in industrial premises involving rubber in the ventilation ducting.
"Ten firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were deployed using three hosereel jets and one main jet, as well as a 9m ladder.
"Berry Hill link road has been blocked by fire service vehicles."
Two marked police cars and two unmarked police cars attended the incident but a spokesperson for the force said that officers were only in attendance to assist with traffic control.

Another passer-by, who wished not to be identified, said: "I'm not sure what's going on.
"I work for one of the companies around here, and I had to park quite far away because the road has been closed.
"The traffic has been hell getting into the industrial estate this morning (July 30), but hopefully nobody was hurt."
