A HOMEOWNER fears the property he's worked all his life for will be 'flushed away down the toilet' if a development goes ahead.

Outline planning permission has been approved to build 45 homes on grazing land on the edge of Drakes Broughton.

Eighteen of the properties will be affordable housing and could be built off Worcester Road.

Stephen Steel commented: "Less than a year ago, I spent approximately £890k on purchasing my current home.

"One of the main reasons I purchased the property was the open aspect at the rear and the views towards the Cotswolds.

"Imagine my shock on being presented with the above planning proposal that would appear to isolate my home as an oasis in a desert of houses with their rear elevations, garages and gardens facing directly into my home.

"It is hard to imagine that a home, which was so carefully considered before purchase, could be the subject of such enormous detrimental change.

"If the proposed development proceeds, the change to my home will amount to everything I have worked all my life and recently paid for being just flushed down the toilet.

"I would also point out that the views I enjoy are not private ones; they are available to all who choose to visit the playing fields or stroll down the main road through the village or Brickyard Lane."

Planning documents state: "The site is located on the edge of the village of Drakes Broughton and physically abuts existing development on two sides. Drakes Broughton is a very sustainable village and has a good range of services, facilities, amenities and employment opportunities for its size.

"The development will be well-connected physically and socially to the existing village via footpaths and pavements.

"There is a proposed link from the site to Walcot Lane, which will serve as a safe route for walkers and cyclists."

More than 40 residents commented on the application to express their views.

Stuart Bryant commented: "I want my children to be brought up in a village that prides itself on its contribution to farming and encouraging outdoor pursuits.

"Not in a village surrounded by back-to-back soulless houses where noise and vehicle pollution will be rife.

"I live in a property that backs onto the field in question for planning.

"Needless to say, the reason we bought the plot in the first place was because of its amazing views across greenbelt land, which at the time was being used as grazing land for horses.

"It is now home to two deer that frequent this space daily.

"Blood, sweat and tears have gone into making this home a one-of-a-kind dwelling. And for what?

"Am I now going to wake up every morning to see a field of lifeless brick and mortar towering over my garden hedge?

"I want to bring my children up in the countryside. What countryside will we have left after this?"
