ESSENTIAL works have taken place in an attempt to find a permanent repair solution for a historic bridge which collapsed.

Specialist investigations were carried out by Worcestershire County Council at Powick Old Bridge on Wednesday, June 10.

The council carried out coring investigations to support the development of a permanent repair plan.

The work involved drilling 77mm holes at various locations to determine the depth of the foundation.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: "The information gathered will provide the project team with the data required to complete the detailed design for the bridge's permanent repair.

"Access to the bridge foundations is necessary to undertake the investigations, meaning the works can only be carried out during periods of very low river levels."

The data collected will be used to inform the final stages of the repair design.

Design work is expected to continue throughout 2026, with contractors likely to return in 2027 to carry out the repairs, subject to approvals and scheduling.
