Midsummer has been observed for thousands of years, with celebrations rooted in both pagan and religious tradition.

The Fold, Bransford, is holding a free community event to mark the summer solstice on June 21 open to families and all ages.

Participants will walk to a field of wildflowers to celebrate the power of the sun around the fire circle, and then enjoy a picnic.

Participants are asked to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and vegetarian or vegan food.

Organisers said: "We’ll talk about what the festival meant to ancient peoples and how we can connect with the energy of the seasons in our own lives today, experiencing the sacredness of the Summer Solstice through ceremony and joyful song and dance."

The meeting point is the far end of the car park near the pond at noon.
