A DRIVER who was caught at an 'outrageous' speed on the M50 in Worcestershire has been sentenced.

Samuel Davies, of Arlon Avenue, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, was caught driving a Subaru at 107mph by a speed camera between junction 1 and junction 2 of the M50.

The court heard that Davies had been badly affected by the experience, which was 'out of character' for the 30-year-old.

Mr Chocker, Davies' defence barrister, said: "Mr Davies was not just ashamed, but he has spent a lot of time in tears or on the verge of tears.

"He has lost almost all of his confidence in driving; he has become obsessed with sticking to the speed limit.

"This was totally out of character for him. You can be assured that you will not find him here again if you choose not to disqualify him."

Sentencing, John Hill, head Magistrate said: "It was an outrageous speed. This is a place where people like to test out how fast their cars can go.

"We have not been presented with any evidence of bad driving.

"The mere experience of these proceedings has been a deterrent."

Davies received six penalty points on his previously clean licence when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (June 17).

He was also fined £650, and ordered to pay costs of £130 and a victim surcharge of £230."
