EIGHTIES pop legends The Blow Monkeys are heading to Worcester as part of a UK tour.
The band will perform at Huntingdon Hall on October 12 following their recent return to the spotlight with a new album and international touring plans.
Led by frontman Dr Robert (Robert Howard), the band are best known for 1980s hits including Digging Your Scene, It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way and You Don’t Own Me.
Emerging from the underground club scene in the mid-1980s, the band combined sharp pop hooks with soulful arrangements and a strong sense of social commentary.
Their music often tackled political themes, drawing comparisons with The Clash for their use of pop as a vehicle for wider messages.
Over a four-decade career, they have collaborated with artists including Curtis Mayfield, Paul Weller and Cheb Khaled.
In 2024, The Blow Monkeys released Birdsong, a new album described as "sparkling" and released on Alan McGee’s Creation Youth label.
Mr McGee, founder of Creation Records and champion of artists including Oasis, praised the group’s recent work as "as good as anything Dr Robert did back in the day."
Dr Robert said the album resulted from a chance meeting with Mr McGee at producer Youth’s studio in the mountains near Granada.
He said: "The songs just poured out almost without effort, which is always a good sign.
"It’s a very ‘up’ record… deliberately so."

The band’s live shows typically blend classic hits with new material, offering fans a mix of nostalgia and fresh sounds.
Huntingdon Hall, located on Crowngate, has built a reputation for attracting established names from across music, comedy and spoken word.
The band have continued to push boundaries since reforming in 2008, releasing nine new albums and performing hundreds of shows.
Their international appeal extended to the big screen when You Don't Own Me was featured on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, introducing the band to a global audience.
Their current tour is expected to include Australian, UK and European dates, with Alan McGee speaking of plans for the group to visit multiple territories in support of their work on Creation Youth.

Their return to the stage comes at a time when 1980s music is enjoying renewed popularity.
The Blow Monkeys' appearance at Huntingdon Hall adds a touch of 80s soul-pop nostalgia to Worcester’s live music line-up.
Fans can expect both the hits that defined their early career and the newer tracks that underline their evolution as a band.
The Blow Monkeys continue to evolve, reminding fans why their music still matters after four decades in the industry.
Tickets are priced at £29.50 plus a £3.50 transaction fee and can be booked via Worcester Theatres under the 'What’s On section for Huntingdon Hall.
