A free support scheme is offering energy advice and home visits to help older people stay warm this winter.
Age UK Wyvern has launched the scheme across Worcestershire to address rising heating costs and support older residents during the colder months.
The Home Energy Check service, funded by the UK Government, offers personalised, in-home advice on staying warm and reducing energy bills.
Rachael Ford, home support service manager at Age UK Wyvern, said: "Through our free energy and benefit checks we’re offering a thorough approach to combating fuel poverty: making homes more energy-efficient while maximising housing income so that people can stay safe, warm and well through the winter months.
"With increasingly unpredictable weather, winter can be an anxious time for many older people, but we are here to help those worried to feel more prepared."
Trained staff visit residents to offer guidance on improving energy efficiency and can supply free equipment such as slow cookers, lightbulbs, and draught excluders.
For those with mobility challenges, remote switches can also be provided to turn off lights to save them having to reach inaccessible power sockets.
The charity is also reminding older people that it offers free benefit checks to ensure they are claiming all the support they are entitled to.
Many older people miss out on financial support each year, with millions of pounds worth of benefits going unclaimed by older people each year.
The service helps individuals identify and claim these entitlements either over the phone or through home visits.
This support is particularly valuable as colder weather typically leads to higher energy bills and increased financial pressure.
