A FULL nursing home plans to expand into two neighbouring homes on a residential street in Droitwich due to "ongoing demand".

Corbett House Nursing Home has submitted plans to Wychavon District Council to change the use of two residential homes, 44 and 46 Corbett Avenue, to nursing home accommodation.

This would see the properties integrated into the existing Corbett House Nursing Home at 40-42 Corbett Avenue.

The application is now open for public consultation until November 5.

Corbett House Nursing Home, which has been operating since June 2013, is fully occupied, providing care for around 35 residents.

The proposed expansion would provide additional accommodation for about 12 more residents, according to the planning documents.

The nursing home, registered with the Care Quality Commission, offers a range of specialist care services.

These include residential nursing care, dementia care, mental health support, acquired brain injury care, and sensory impairment care.

The nursing home operators have identified a "strong and ongoing demand" for additional accommodation, citing evidence of unmet need in the local area.

The planning application has been submitted in response to significant local demand for more nursing residential care accommodation, with an acknowledged under-provision of such facilities within the Worcestershire conurbation.

A spokesperson on the planning document said: "The proposal is driven by a significant local demand for nursing residential care accommodation together with an acknowledged under-provision of such facilities within the Worcestershire conurbation.

"The existing nursing home is fully occupied and there is a strong demand for additional rooms.

"The proposal therefore represents a logical and sustainable expansion of an
established care facility in a location where care services are already successfully provided.

"The development will assist in meeting the growing needs of an ageing population whilst providing additional specialist accommodation within an existing care environment."

The proposed development will see the two vacant properties being physically linked to the existing nursing home, enabling the site to operate as a single, integrated care facility.

The design of the proposed changes aims to retain the appearance of the existing houses and preserve the residential character of the area.

The expansion will also create around 15 new jobs.

Existing staff levels are 20 full-time and 10 part-time.
