A STAINED glass designer from Malvern is celebrating her first public commission.

Jackie Harris has installed two door panels at the award-winning Fold at Bransford, near Worcester.

Although Mrs Harris has undertaken numerous private commissions in her two years as a professional glass artist, the commission to design and make a pair of door panels for WholeHealth at the Fold marks a particular landmark as the piece is now housed in a prominent public space.

“I took my inspiration for the design from the interior of the building, with its rich textiles and natural wood,” she said. “I used a number of rich colours, including deep red, yellow, turquoise and purple, mixed with more subdued tones of grey, clear textured glasses and hand-etched pieces to create a kaleidoscope of shafts of light and colour when you look through the panels to the courtyard.”

Mrs Harris said the idea of her making the windows was first mooted when the Fold opened a year ago in May 2007.

The panels also act as a screen, giving clients more privacy when they are using the large space for yoga or other activities.

Jane Cox, co-director of the Fold, who commissioned the windows for WholeHealth, said: “The glass panels are stunning and they look wonderful with the light flowing through. Thank you for all the care and attention you have put in to them.”

Mrs Harris is exhibiting other stained glass windows at Priory Lodge, Malvern, until Tuesday, August 12. Visit jackieharrisglass.co.uk for details.
