MORE than 260 children descended on a community centre in Worcester to take part in a national play day.

The rain held off for the special event at the Ronkswood Community Centre which was hosted by the Worcester Play Centre for children aged between five and 11.

This year’s play day was themed around Risky Play, which was part of a campaign from Play England to promote the benefits of allowing children to manage their own risks while playing.

One of the organisers Hannah Cox said: “The day also focused on educating the children on how to play safer within their community. The day could not have run without the help and support from all play workers, community workers, volunteers and centre staff from the local communities.”

The event was held at the beginning of the month and children were given bicycle security tags and stranger danger information.

Children were also given the chance to make their own finger prints and the Hereford and Worcester Fire Safety Team provided the Play Day with a smoke house for the children to learn how to move through a smoke filled room.

Activities also included rodeo rides, sumo suits, music, games and prizes.
