MANY commuters have logged on to your Worcester News website venting their frustration following our story of commuters who are fed-up with the poor train service.

Last week we revealed how Evesham woman Elly Stokes had to wait up to 90 minutes for a train from the city to her home town because there was no service between 5.21pm and 6.49pm during the week.

Miss Stokes has now created an online petition to gather more names from unhappy commuters to voice their concern to the train company First Great Western.

Reader Salsa, of Malvern agreed with the problem of the train provider not giving adequate train times.

She said: “This is the same for people travelling to/from Malvern/Pershore.

“Getting to Pershore in the morning is fine, but coming home, the train times are 15.54 and 17.54. If for any reason you miss the early train or it is cancelled you then have a two-hour wait before the next one.

She added: “Considering most people finish work at approximately 5pm you would think that there would be a train near this time.”Easterman, of Worcester, agreed with Salsa, and said First Great Western’s service to Cheltenham was also bad over the peak times.

“The answer is not more cars and thus more congestion on the roads – it’s about pressuring First Great Western to provide the right service.” Reader Mysteryman suggested First Great Western provided a better bus service for train users wanting to get home in the evening.

He said: “After all, doesn’t First Group run all the bus services in the area and have a massive fleet of buses?”

Val, who lives in Worcestershire, also believes the public transport in the county is bad. “Public transport is a joke. Ever tried getting buses to/from Cheltenham/Gloucester early morning or after 4pm to Upton? Or to Malvern after 6pm, or anywhere on a Sunday from Upton?

“We can’t all afford to run cars and also the Government tells us to use public transport. It is obvious they have never tried using it.”

However Logik, of Worcester believes people should learn to drive and buy a car – or buy a push-bike and stop complaining.

“Public transport will never be a viable alternative in today’s world,” he added.
