TWO young children and a woman have escaped from an overturned car after it skidded on a level crossing.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to find a brand new Vauxhall Astra up against a tree near the level crossing on Stocks Lane, Leigh Sinton, just after 8am today.

No other vehicles were involved.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “I believe the mum had been driving over the rail tracks, it slipped and the car overturned.

“There were three occupants in the vehicle. One woman was driving, believed to be 24, and two children, a boy and a girl, of primary school age.

“They were shaken up but there weren’t any serious injuries. The mum suffered a wrist injury and the boy suffered a hand injury.

“They were taken in a rapid response vehicle to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.”

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Alec Mackie said: “It was a brand new Vauxhall Astra which had only been delivered and taken charge of on Tuesday we were led to believe.

“The mum and two children managed to scramble out of the car and when crews from Worcester and Malvern arrived they discovered that they were being looked after and cared for by someone living nearby.”
