AMATEUR sleuths are being invited to delve into a murder mystery being held in the historic surroundings of Hartlebury Castle.

Worcestershire County Council’s County Museum, based in the castle, is hosting the family event on Sunday.

Visitors will join a cast of characters shortly after a body has been discovered and in classic Hercule Poirot-style solve the mystery and win a prize.

The fictional crime is set during the actual visit of Queen Elizabeth I to the castle in 1575.

The synposis states: “Bishop Bullingham and his wife are playing host to the Queen of England. On her way to Worcester, the Queen has broken her journey to pass the night at Hartlebury Castle.

“During her stay the unthinkable has occurred – murder. All but Her Majesty are now suspects.”

Rachel Robinson, county council’s visitor services officer, said: “People will get the chance to meet the suspects, quiz them on their motives and movements by Queen Elizabeth herself. Then they will get a chance to meet the characters and ask further questions. They’re always popular.”

Would-be sleuths interested in taking part should visit anytime between 11pm and 5pm on the day, with adult admission £4, children and concessions £2 and a family ticket £10 For more information, call 01299 250416 or visit worcestershire.gov.uk/ museum.
