A FORMER Worcester curate who turned up to church drunk and told colleagues she was a swinger, is now working as a maths teacher at a county school.

Teresa Davies has been working as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) at Baxter College in Kidderminster since September, following a period of training at the school.

Your Worcester News revealed earlier this week how 37-year-old Mrs Davies was found guilty of “conduct unbecoming or inappropriate to the office and work of a clerk in holy orders” at a Church of England tribunal.

David Seddon, headteacher at the school, said Mrs Davies had been taken on through the appropriate channels.

“We did all the necessary checks and obtained references, including CRBs,” he said. “She told me about the tribunal and we spoke to the General Teaching Council for England to make sure there was nothing untoward in terms of safeguarding children, and there was no risk.”

He added: “This happened two and a half years ago in another profession.”

Mr Seddon said Mrs Davies was a good teacher, who was improving all the time.

Mrs Davies was banned from any role in the clergy for at least 12 years following the tribunal at the Anglican Communion Office in London.

It had followed complaints made about Mrs Davies – who did her curacy at St Stephen’s Church, Droitwich Road, Barbourne, between 2002 and 2006 – from her time as team vicar in the Daventry team ministry.
