MISS Worcester is set to sing at a special screening of a film based on a wartime heroine with connections to the Faithful City.

Rosabella Styles has been invited to perform at the British Film Institute and be a guest at the screening of wartime classic Carve Her Name With Pride on Tuesday.

It is 50 years since the release of the film which depicts the true story of special operations executive Violette Szabo who became the first woman to receive the George Cross posthumously.

Violette, who was born in London, was a frequent visitor to Worcester and Hereford staying with relatives inbetween missions.

Miss Styles, aged 19, of Cradley, near Malvern, will sing Violette’s Story which was written by her father Roger. It is also the song she performed at the Miss Worcester 2008 finals earlier in the year.

Violette’s daughter Tania Szabo, who will also be a guest at the screening at the Imax cinema on London’s Southbank, asked Miss Styles to attend after hearing her sing at her home in Jersey.

The star of the film, Virginia McKenna, and director Lewis Gilbert, along with other actors, will also be in attendance.

Miss Styles has supported the Violette Szabo Museum in Wormelow, Herefordshire, since meeting its founder Rosemary Rigby MBE when she was 10-years-old.
