VISITORS really can get a taste of Worcester now one of the city’s most famous exports is sold centrally.

Lea and Perrins Worcester-shire Sauce is now available from VisitWorcester’s tourist information centre based in the Guildhall.

The centre is now seeking more high quality produce that is unique or closely linked to Worcester to broaden its range of locally produced gifts and souvenirs.

Centre manager Alexandra Syrotiuk said: “People come to Worcester from all corners of this country and indeed from all corners of the world.

“We have a good range of Worcester souvenirs but we thought it would be nice to be able to offer people a unique gift from this area to complement the visitor experience and remind them of their time here. We find that even if people have never heard of Worcester itself they have always heard of Worcester-shire Sauce.

“They often don’t make the connection so we thought we’d bring the place and the product together.

“It is available in the supermarkets but the majority of people who come to us are only here for a couple of days and want to spend their time enjoying the attractions that the area has to offer.”

The centre has been giving away a free bottle of Worcestershire Sauce to anyone who has bought the Lea and Perrins Cookbook, which gives a wide range of recipe ideas using the sauce.

Speaking about the opportunity for promoting other high quality local produce, Ms Syrotiuk said: “I would encourage anyone who produces anything locally to get in touch with us and discuss the options available.

“We have a small exhibition and display space rotated on a monthly basis so there is no reason why we could not use this to advertise local suppliers over a month and encourage people to shop local.”
