ACCOUNTANTS and tax advisers with client records in Worcestershire and Herefordshire are set to get a more efficient telephone service from HM Revenue & Customs with the introduction of a local agent dedicated line.

By ringing 0845 366 7857 accountants and tax advisers will have their own dedicated line to HMRC.

They will get to speak to a well-trained adviser who can help with difficult and complex issues.

If the query cannot be answered straight away there is an immediate route to a specialist within HMRC.

Brian Redford, head of HMRC’s agents and employers service Improvement programme, said: “Agents have told us they needed telephone lines that offered them a unique service that catered for their needs. These dedicated numbers will help us improve the service we offer.

"We have already had positive feedback from people who have used the lines elsewhere in the country.

“The dedicated lines are part of the work of the Agents and Employers Service Improvement Programme, which aims to ensure that accountants see a real difference in their interaction with HMRC”.

The agent dedicated lines are intended for all enquiries for taxpayer specific calls about self assessment and Pay as you Earn for individuals and partnership matters.

HMRC has also revamped its web pages for accountants – hmrc.gov.uk/agents - and customer relations managers or agent account managers are being introduced in some of its larger offices.
