A WOMAN who allegedly carried an imitation pistol in her handbag has had her case adjourned after prosecutors were told to think again about the charge.

Susan Brunwin, of Malvern Link, appeared at Worcester Magistrates charged with using threatening words or behaviour likely to cause distress.

But before she could enter a plea deputy district judge Ian Strongman asked the Crown Prosecution Service to look again at the case.

“I don’t think a section five is the right charge at all,” he said.

Brunwin, of Worcester Road, was arrested in Worcester city centre after an argument with another woman on Saturday, August 2.

Officers then allegedly discovered the handgun in her bag.

Marie Watton, prosecuting, said the weapon had been inspected by police firearms experts and found to be “a blank firing gun” which could not have been adapted into a real gun.

She added charging Brunwin with possession of an imitation firearm was also discounted by prosecutors.

Addressing Brunwin, Mr Strongman said: “I am concerned that the charge the prosecution have chosen does not reflect the facts alleged and I am inviting them to look at it.”

The 57-year-old was released on unconditional bail to appear back before the court on Friday, November 28.
