A FOUR-WEEK-OLD baby was nearly “spiked” by part of a security tag left in her new romper suit, according to her mother.

Jayne Wright, aged 33, was taking off her baby daughter’s new winter coat when she noticed a half-inch piece of metal with a “pin point” inside the all-in-one suit.

She bought the winter warmer in Mothercare, Friary Walk, Worcester – and the company has apologised.

“I lifted her up to take off her suit and when I did it was just lying in the side of the garment,” she said.

“I was shocked – what do you do? If she’d have rolled or moved in her pushchair then it have hurt her.”

She had bought the £20 winter warmer hours earlier before setting out to help keep the chill off her daughter during a family Halloween outing.

Miss Wright, of The Homestead, Droitwich, and baby Ffion, who weighs just 5lbs, had been out with her older daughter Olivia, aged nine, trick or treating in nearby streets.

The family had planned to stay out longer when Ffion started crying for a feed Miss Wright said she was glad she returned home when she did.

“She’s only small and with something so small like that it could have spiked her and hurt her,” she said.

She believes the salesperson who served her removed the upper part of the security tag, but not the mounting which holds the tag in place.

“With the other part removed it must just have fallen inside,” she said.

“I’ve never had any trouble with anything I’ve bought there before.” She said she had no com- plaints with the winter suit itself.

A Mothercare spokesman said: “We were sorry to hear about Miss Wright’s experience and we very much hope that Ffion was not injured by the tag.

“We can only put this down to an oversight.

“We are investigating the incident with our store team at Worcester and will ensure that any need for further training is ident-ified and carried out immediately.”
