SCHOOLS and colleges will hold a minute's silence on Friday in memory of Daren Loader, who died after being assaulted in a Hereford subway.

At 10am on Friday, a week after his death, some county schools will hold the silence to remember him.

“By remembering Daren in this way”, said a spokesman for Herefordshire Council, “it means that young people are supported at this time in a safe school or college environment.

“Schools are also likely to take the opportunity to continue to ensure that our young people understand that all people from all walks of life in Herefordshire share the shock and sadness at his loss.

"And it is important we all support each other and work together to ensure everyone has the confidence to safely go about their lives as before”.

He was attacked in the Great Western Way underpass in Hereford at 10pm on Thursday, March 12.

He was admitted to Hereford County Hospital but died the next day.

The police have charged two men with murder. They have been remanded in custody.

“The police are grateful for the help that has been offered by every community, including migrant and seasonal workers in Herefordshire, who are keen to support the police in their work”, said the spokesman.

Hereford Academy, which Daren attended last year described him as being full of energy and keen on joining the army.

He took every opportunity to take part in career events to realise his dream. His other passion was football and he was a valued member of the school team.
