THE first group of new rowers who took part in Worcester Rowing Club’s Go Row scheme have graduated with flying colours.

Earlier this year the club in Grandstand Road, Worcester, launched a new scheme aimed at people looking to take up a new challenge or return to rowing – and it has been hailed as a resounding success.

In total, 26 people from all over the county took part in the scheme, with 21 making it through the 11-week course to the graduation, held on Saturday, June 20.

Club captain Steen McCollin said he was really pleased with the number of people who had successfully completed the Go Row scheme.

“What surprised me was the quality of people that got through and did so well on the course,” he said.

“It was just such a huge success and it exceeded my expectations of what we might be able to do in the 11 weeks.

“What we are also really pleased with are the number of rowers wanting to go on to the novice programme and carry on the sport.

“I also want to say thank you to those who have given up their time to coach.”

The next Go Row session starts in just a few weeks and Mr McCollin said they were looking for more interested people to take part.

“We have already had a good take-up on this course but we still have a few spaces left,” he said.

“If people want to come down and have a look at what we do, they can give it a go, or just ask a few questions to see if its right for them.

“They can then turn up on the day or ring us at the club.”

The next Go-Row scheme will start on Wednesday, July 8 at 6.30pm at Worcester Rowing Club.
