WE had a glorious evening for our June garden party at a member’s house in Spetchley and welcomed nearly 30 visitors.

There were stalls with cakes, books, plants, bric-a-brac, a large raffle and some competitions.

When all had been round the stalls they sat in the sunshine studying pictures of flowers, the initials of which formed the name of a gardening expert, Carol Klein, or puzzling over a quiz, the answers of which were place names in the UK.

Later we enjoyed hot dogs and so on cooked on the barbecue with salad, coleslaw and garnishing, for which we were very grateful to Debbie, her husband and friends.

We then had a lovely cream sponge and strawberry dessert, for which we give special thanks to Margaret.

Cold drinks had been served earlier and tea and coffee followed our supper.

The large raffle meant many went home with a prize. The flower competition was a five-way tie but the winner finally drawn out was Jackie from Comer. The quiz was won jointly by three members of St Peter’s WI. A cuddly camel’s name competition was won by Beryl of Comer and the nearest guess to the number of buttons in a jar was from Judy of Broomhall.

I think all agreed it had been a fun evening and we wish to thank all the visitors for coming and making it so. We meet again on Tuesday, July 12, at 7.30pm at Whittington Village Hall when our speaker will be Meg Farmer on fostering children. Visitors and new members always receive a warm welcome.
