A COOK at a Worcestershire school has won an award for her hard work.

Evesham High School caterer Ruth Payne has been proclaimed School Cook of the Year for Hereford and Worcester Schools after a tense ‘cook-off’ at the Three Counties Show.

From 30 applicants, both finalists were representing the school catering company, Alliance in Partnership, but Evesham High School is proud to have her recognised as outright winner of this prestigious award.

She had to produce a twocourse meal for under £1 using local ingredients, talk her way through the preparation stage using head microphones in front of the public, and then had to plate up her meal for the judges’ testing and tasting.

A spokesman for the school said: “This was a very challenging competition and Ruth was absolutely delighted to have won.

“Ruth and her team also reached the last six schools in the School Caterer of the Year Award.”
