AN elderly Droitwich widow, who was targeted by conmen, has been overwhelmed by kind offers to carry out free work at her home.

Eight-two-year-old Rose Morton, of Portland Road, had £300 and other valuables take from her house when three men tricked her on Tuesday, June 16.

The thieves said they would clean and seal her driveway, but the heartless trio only jet washed it before making off with her cash.

During the work they also distracted Rose as they took belongings from her mantelpiece.

However, since the story featured in your Worcester News, Rose has been approached by four different firms and individuals who are willing to give her a helping hand after reading what happened.

One kind resident, Paul Prosser-Bowcott who runs Cleaner Driveways, wrote a letter to Rose about how bad he felt that she was conned.

He also asked if he could come and re-sand her driveway for her – an offer she took up this week.

Mr Prosser-Bowcott was not the only person to want to help Rose after what had happened.

Scott Walters, from Spa Paving, council worker Dean Holliday and a Worcester-based firm all got in touch to offer her help.

“It has restored my faith in people,” said Rose.

“I am an independent person and will not be accepting anything for free.

“I will let Paul help me, but I will have to give him something for it because that is the kind of person I am.

“I can’t take everyone up on their offers, but would like to thank them for their kindness.

“I feel they have helped redress the balance a little and it just goes to show they are all honest workers.

“I will admit that I still felt unnerved and afraid almost that someone may still be lurking when I came home.

“I feel much better now knowing that there are people out there who still look out for you and try to do the right thing.”
