A MAN who broke into a hair salon and stole five sets of hair straighteners was caught after leaving blood at the scene, a court was told.

Christopher Smith smashed a window and climbed into Gingers Hair Salon, grabbed five GHD straighteners and ran off in February this year.

Forensic scientists found traces of blood at the scene and the DNA matched Smith’s.

He was later arrested and admitted the burglary when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Paul Stanley, defending, said: “It was committed at a time when Mr Smith was using heroin and crack cocaine regularly.

“He has removed that cocaine habit and reduced his heroin addiction as well. He is very sorry for what he has done.”

Twenty-seven-year-old Smith, of Chedworth Drive, Warndon, Worcester, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for 17 months.

He was ordered to pay £797.80 compensation to the hair salon and £60 court costs.
