LOCAL stars set to take on a team of celebrities in a charity football match have been unveiled.

Stars from Channel 4’s Hollyoaks series are swapping their scripts for the pitch at St George’s Lane in Worcester on Saturday, July 11, in aid of Leukaemia CARE.

Thousands of star-spotters are expected to gather at the home of Worcester City Football Club for the kick-off at 3pm.

They will be lining up against the All Stars, an elite footballing side of local celebrities including ex-West Brom and England striker Cyrille Regis; Simon Archer, Olympic badminton bronze medal winner in 2004; and Phil Newport, ex-England and Worcestershire cricketer.

Other stars include Worcester Warriors academy players, ex-Warrior Gareth Hughes and Roger Narbett, head chef for the England football team and local restaurateur.

The squad has been put together by businessman and entrepreneur Bob Marley.

The Hollyoaks stars team line-up is set to be revealed next week.

After the game, whatever the result, the celebrities will be hitting the town for some well-earned rest and relaxation and will be making an appearance in Bushwackers and Sin. Money from ticket sales will go to Leukaemia CARE.

Lauren Billington, the charity’s corporate and trust fund manager, said: “The local celebrity side put together by Bob Marley is a testament to his efforts and to the pull of such a spectacular event which has drawn personalities from the sport and business communities.

“The team also includes ex- patient and supporter of the charity Ian Micklewright, whose presence we hope will remind us all of the purpose of this fun day; to raise money for a hard-working charity.

“Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who is participating.”
