A MEAT thief has been given a suspended prison sentence for shoplifting.
Simon Grinnell stole six joints of beef and cans of energy drinks on Wednes-day, June 6, from Somerfield in Worcester. He escaped jail because of the progress he has made in beating his drug and alcohol addiction.
Chris Hilton, defending, said 36-year-old Grinnell had been working well with the probation service, had gain-ed a qualification in adult literacy and was doing odd jobs in the community.
Grinnell, of Summerfield Gardens, Evesham, admitted the offence and was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison suspended for 15 months.
A previous suspended sentence was extended for anot-her 12 months.
He was also ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work and pay £60 court costs.
