A TEENAGER who was bullied on the social networking website Facebook says she is having to move house to escape her tormentors.

On Friday, Keeley Houghton became the first person in Britain to be jailed for harassing someone on Facebook.

Worcester Magistrates Court was told that the 18-year-old, from Elgar Avenue, Malvern, had bullied fellow schoolgirl Emily Moore for four years before making threats to kill her on the website.

Jailing her for three months, district judge Bruce Morgan described what Houghton had done as “warped” and “nasty”.

After the court case, Miss Moore, also 18, said the past four years had been very difficult.

She revealed she was now selling her home to escape the bullies.

“We want to take back control as they know where I live, so we are moving when we can,” she said.

The bullying by Houghton and her friends began when Miss Moore was in year eight at The Chase technology college in Malvern.

Houghton was eventually excluded from school.

In July this year, Miss Moore and Houghton met by accident at the Vault Inn, Malvern.

“It was my friend’s birthday and she wanted to go for a drink in the local pub. I was worried of what might happen but I decided that I couldn’t live my life in fear any more.

“I sat down, saw her walk past and my heart stopped. I ran to the toilets and burst into tears,” she said.

“I decided that I couldn’t let her ruin my life any more so I walked back into the pub, determined to have a good night.”

But it soon turned sour and Houghton had to be ejected from the premises.

A few days later, Miss Moore was alerted to Houghton’s Facebook page by a friend.

When she saw the threats, she said her “blood ran cold”.

“I felt incredibly scared – things were getting out of hand and I now seriously feared for my life,” she said.

Miss Moore went to the police and Houghton pleaded guilty to harassment.

“Keeley’s abuse has literally consumed my every waking moment for the past four years.

“The funniest thing about it is that I have no idea why she took such a strong dislike to me,” said Miss Moore.

“I’d never done anything to her. I felt so relieved when she pleaded guilty; it meant that I didn’t have to appear in court.

“With regards to her sentence, obviously I would prefer it if they locked her up and threw away the key but I’m happy with three months.

“She’s finally got what she deserves.”
