DESPITE our poor start to the season, it’s not all doom and gloom at Worcester City.

It’s still tight in the league table and we need to make sure we stay in touch.

Getting that first victory is a mental block with some people. There’s no doubt we have got the side to do it and hopefully, if we can get a win, it will kick start the season.

I had a similar experience while I was at Bristol City in the mid-90s. We had a decent side and went through all of pre-season conceding just one goal.

We looked solid and good going forward but against Huddersfield in our first game of the season we were 1-0 down inside 10 seconds.

All the preparation counted for nothing but we got on with it and kicked on.

I am certain we will be fine. I think the vast majority of the fans are knowlegable and understand the situation we are in. I was quite pleased with the fans’ forum on Saturday and the reaction myself and Carl Heeley got afterwards.

I also had a chat with a few supporters immediately after the Staines game. They asked a few questions and it was quite a constructive conversation.

Most people think we have a better squad than last year but it’s a case of getting some results and some consistency.

At present, we get one good performance followed by an average performance.

It’s frustrating. I gave the back four a bit of stick for the goal at Bath City on Monday and for a chance they had about five minutes after scoring. Week in week out our defenders have done well and we look pretty solid but I was disappointed with the goal we conceded.

Maybe it was a point we didn’t deserve but we’ll take it.

At the other end of the pitch, I was pleased to see Louis Bridges get his goal because he’s come in and worked hard.

He scored a few goals in pre-season and he reminds me of a young Chris Waddle in his physique.

Louis always looks tired but he keeps going. It’s a big step up for him but he always looks like he’ll nick a goal because he’s got that desire to get into the box.

I am also looking to bring in a few players before Saturday’s match against Dorchester Town to enchance the squad. With Martin Butler and Aaron Moses-Garvey having left, we are a couple short up front.

Jordan Fitzpatrick has served his three-match ban and is available again. He also played in last night’s Central Conference game against Stafford Rangers, along with Jack Connolly, Mike Wardle and youngsters from our partnership with Birmingham City.

We have been without Jordan for a couple of weeks and you miss someone like that with the size of our squad.

However, it doesn’t look like Shabir Khan will be fit for the weekend. I watched him train before the Bath game and he was limping a bit.

Meanwhile, Kevin Spencer might need a scan on his knee but we are waiting to see what the doctor says.
