A WORCESTER News reader is now the proud owner of a beautiful black opal pendant, thanks to a local jeweller’s.

We teamed up with WH Peplow in Worcester High Street to run a competition which gave readers a chance to win the gem worth £500.

Lucky winner Betty Sherwood, of Cranham Drive, Warndon, Worcester, collected her sparkling prize earlier this week.

Peplow shop manager Jo Bourne said: “The competition ran in conjunction with a black opal exhibition that we had earlier this month.

“John Wheeler, a miner from Australia, brought his entire collection of rare and fine quality opals into the shop. His wife was the one who designed and mounted the black opal pendant prize.

“We don’t often get to tell customers exactly where their jewellery was mined and who mined it.

“It’s nice to be able to do that. It makes is all the more memorable.”
