A MAN who fell from a scaffolding lift at a drinks factory has died.

Police are now investigating the incident which took place at Universal Beverages Limited in Little Marcle Road, Ledbury.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene shortly before 8.10am this morning.

Two rapid response vehicles were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found a man on the floor who is believed to have fallen from a scaffolding lift.

“Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Pete Butcher, media and communications manager for the herefordshire division of West Mercia Constabulary, confirmed officers had attended an incident at the firm’s premises.

He said: “It is thought the incident to be an industrial accident but the investigation is still at an early stage and this cannot yet be confirmed. If that is the case, police will be liaising with other appropriate agencies at the earliest opportunity.”

Sandy Green, head of human resources at UBL, said: ”I can confirm that an accident occurred at the UBL Robertson’s Park site earlier this morning.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the team here are co-operating fully with the police.

"Some areas of production and some milling has been suspended while a full investigation is carried out. Until this is completed I am not in a position to comment further.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues impacted by today’s events.”

UBL employs about 130 people in Ledbury.
