PATIENTS at Malvern Community Hospital can now receive treatment closer to home thanks to some new equipment bought by the hospital’s League of Friends.

A new ultrasound system has been installed to allow patients, including pregnant women, to receive scans locally rather than having to travel to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

The system was bought with funds raised from by the Malvern Community Hospital League of Friends, a charitable organisation that provides support and assists with the purchase of equipment for the hospital’s patients.

Lin Ingles, matron at Malvern Community Hospital, said: “This new ultrasound system provides a much better experience for our patients because they will no longer have to travel as far as 13 miles to the nearest acute site for an appointment.

“It also enables patients to receive faster treatment, as any issues can be diagnosed swiftly and taken care of on site, rather than referring the patient to the acute hospital for an initial scan.”

Sheila Young, chairman of Malvern Hospital League of Friends, said: “Things are getting better all the time. We’re delighted to have been able to purchase this with much help from committee members and from the involvement of Malvern people.

“Even though we have our sights on the new hospital, we are still very much looking at the needs of our current hospital.”

The hospital’s new ultrasound system will be used for scans in general medicine, surgery, gynaecology and vascular work, as well as to help support staff training in orthopaedics.
