A MAN and a woman have been cleared by a judge of child neglect over allegations they failed to seek medical care for a child with a large and “horrific” bruise on her bottom.

Sam Cullen and Trevor Slater faced identical charges of child neglect after they were accused of failing to notify social workers or medical professionals of the bruise.

Miss Cullen, aged 23, and Mr Slater, aged 39, of Nibley Close, Warndon, Worcester, both denied the charge.

The bruise was first spotted by the child’s nursery, after which the child was examined at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Both Miss Cullen and Mr Slater said they had not been aware of the bruise and had been ‘shocked’ when it was pointed out.

Both said they would have sought medical attention for the injury if they had been aware of it.

The court heard that the doctor who eventually examined the child had found the bruise to be non-accidental.

District judge Mark Layton found them not guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court.
