RIDERS from Worcestershire have taken part in an event billed as the world’s largest riding lesson.

Dozens of enthusiasts and riding club members from the county took part in the international all-day event in aid of Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

One of the sessions was held at Worcester Riding Centre, at Clifton, near Worcester, on Thursday.

A group of adults with learning disabilities from the Hunt’s End Farm riding group, Droitwich, took part with a four-minute lesson.

Jeannie Bird, Worcestershire RDA branch deputy chairman and the riding group’s coordinator, said: “They got on very well, excellently in fact. They get such a lot out of it, of course.

“We have mostly adults with Down’s Syndrome, but imagine what riding can do psychologically for somebody who is in a wheelchair – suddenly to be up above everybody.”

Several riding lessons were taken by different groups at the centre, off the A38, while worldwide thousands of people are thought to have taken part.

The event was to raise awareness about the RDA, which relies on volunteers such as Mrs Bird to function.
