A SPORTS journalist who hails from Herefordshire has landed a prime-time BBC television job.

Mary Rhodes, who studied at Weobley High School and Hereford Sixth Form College, is the new presenter of regional current affairs show Inside Out, which returns to BBC One at 7.30pm on Monday, October 12.

After working with BBC Hereford & Worcester radio, Ms Rhodes made it on to national TV screens where she has reported on major sporting events at home and abroad.

She was the first female sport presenter on Radio 4’s Today programme.

Inside Out was previously presented by Ashley Blake who was jailed for two years last month after hitting a 17-year-old with a wooden pole at a pub he owned.

The 40-year-old has since lodged an appeal against the sentence.
