ILLEGALLY parked lorries, vans and cars are are ruining the peace of a Worcester neighbourhood.

Vehicles are allowed to park in Dugdale Drive, Warndon Villages, for a maximum of two hours between the hours of 9pm and 6am.

But the law is not being enforced and instead is being flouted on a daily basis.

One resident discussed the issue at the Warndon Parish Council meeting this week.

“It is regularly used for commercial vehicles. The longest they have parked there is 10 days,” he said.

“Some cars for sale have been left there for four days. It seems a long way for the enforcement officers to walk from their offices in the city centre. Who would want an articulated lorry parked less than 50 metres from their front door and starting its engine at 5.30am?”

Residents and parish councillors are now calling for the whole area to be painted with double yellow lines.

Former leader of the opposition at Worcestershire County Council and parish councillor John Buckley said the issue of parking across the whole of the city needed to be addressed.

“Putting double yellow lines down only moves the problem to somewhere else,” he said.

“It will be a brave city council that gets to grips with the issue in the city. It is just getting worse and worse.”

Warndon Parish Council agreed to write to the county council and express its concern. It will also ask for the rules on what it can and cannot do to enforce illegal parking in the area.
