A FORMER Worcester schoolgirl honoured a promise to her dying father and completed a triathlon in the French Alps.

Sarah Adlam swam a mile in Lac du Verny, completed a 19-mile bike ride which included a nine-mile ascent with 21 infamous bends, then finished a five-mile run.

By finishing the race 43-year-old Ms Adlam, who now lives in Nottingham, raised £2,000 for St Richard’s Hospice, which cared for her father Brian.

“The challenge is, importantly, the way to thank again all the wonderful people who helped and supported mum and dad through his illness, especially at St Richard’s Hospice,” said Ms Adlam, who attended the Alice Ottley School (now RGS Worcester).

“Dad loved the mountains and I do triathlons so before he died it seemed like a sensible idea to promise him I would do the Alpe D’Huez Triathlon.

“Afterwards as I walked back, the wind had lifted and was blowing up the hill and right in my face. Dad was there and I know he will have been proud.”
