A MAN who pulled his housemate off the toilet before punching him in the face several times has pleaded guilty to assault.

Carl Eades, formerly of St George’s Lane North, Worcester, also admitted carrying a knife in a public place during a separate incident. On Monday, September 21, police were called to Barbourne Road after reports of a man falling over in the road.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said officers arrived at about 1.30pm and found Eades struggling to sit up on the pavement with dilated pupils. The 27-year-old claimed he had taken heroin and when officers searched him they found a wooden handled kitchen knife in his trouser pocket.

Eades refused to be taken to hospital and was dropped at his home address before signing one of the officer's notebooks to confirm the knife was his.

Police returned to his house the following day to arrest him and take him to Worcester Police Station to be interviewed.

Eades told officers he had been to the doctors earlier the previous day to collect a prescription and took 13 tablets to “get a buzz”.

He said he had no idea why he decided to take the knife.

On Thursday, October 1, Eades then got into a confrontation with a housemate which resulted in a violent assault.

Eades and Tom Lewis were both living at the address in St George’s Lane North, which is part of St Paul’s Hostel. Mr Lewis had been told to leave the property after letting off a fire extinguisher and accused Eades of being a “grass”.

The pair continued to argue throughout the evening then Mr Lewis went to the toilet and sat down before Eades came in, pulled him from the toilet and punched him in the face six or seven times.

Police were called and when they arrived Eades said: “Yes I assaulted him, I’ll kill him if I get hold of him. I want to go to prison, I think I’m going mad.”

Barry Newton, defending, said his client has since moved to Bewdley to live with his mother.

The case was adjourned for a full pre-sentence report and Eades was bailed on the condition he doesn’t enter Worcester and co-operates with the probation service.

He will reappear before city magistrates on Wednesday, November 4.
