WORCESTER’S famed ghost walk now gives people a chance to go inside the city’s spookiest buildings.

The new Ghost Walk of Worcester, which runs every Friday and Saturday night around city centre streets, will take brave participants on a spine-tingling tour led by professional actors.

Walkers will have unprecedented night-time access to some of the city’s most haunted locations, including the cells under the Guildhall, where it is reported that the perfume of a long-deceased women still hangs in the air.

Other stops along the route are St Swithun’s Church, Greyfriars gardens, Worcester Cathedral, the Tudor House Heritage Centre and the Commandery. Unlike the old walk there are no tricks, shocks or surprises along the way, just unnerving tales, intriguing facts and the power of the imagination.

“I genuinely believe there is something for everyone now,” said Worcester Live chief executive Chris Jaeger, who researched and wrote the new script.

“There is lots of humour, really interesting history and some fantastic buildings to explore.

“We were aware with the old ghost walk that people were left wanting more history and information about the buildings they’d seen.

“So we decided to have these four guides, who are all very different characters, take you on a tour of the city and tell lots of quirky stories from Worcester’s past.”

Stories include the tale of a monk who – according to legend – still keeps watch over St Helen’s Church in the High Street, and the city councillors who once played tennis in the lower floors of the Guildhall.

The Ghost Walk, which takes just over an hour, ends with a complimentary glass of mulled wine inside the Commandery in Sidbury.
