A MAN from Worcester who used a false name and address to sell stolen goods to a music store has been told he could face a custodial sentence.

Daniel Stretton, of St Nicholas Street said he was offered a rare mixing desk worth £1200 for £50 on Wednesday, June 17.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Stretton then took the mixing desk to DJ Supplies, Kidderminster, the following day in a bid to sell it for a profit.

After using a bogus utility bill as identification, Stretton, aged 26, agreed a fee of £350 for the music equipment.

Mr Dodson said the kit had belonged to a man living on Spetchley Road, Worcester, who reported the mixing desk, a pair of headphones and some audio cables stolen on Wednesday, June 17.

The man had left his house at midnight the previous day and returned the following evening to find the equipment missing from his kitchen.

After making his own enquiries, the man went to DJ Supplies with a detective from West Mercia Police and found his mixing desk for sale in the store.

Officers then executed a warrant to search Stretton’s house where they found the missing Sony headphones worth £150.

The court heard how Stretton had been at the victim’s house the day prior to the theft and had been told the mixing desk was very rare and worth £1,200.

Mr Dodson added how Stretton had 18 previous convictions, ten of which involved dishonesty.

Appearing before city magistrates, Stretton admitted fraud by misrepresentation, receiving stolen goods and a bail act offence for turning up to court late.

Chairman of the magistrates Diane Harper ordered a full pre sentence report and said they would be considering all options, including custody.

Stretton will reapear in court for sentencing on Thursday, November 19.
