GOLFERS have raised £2,800 to help children with debilitating muscular dystrophy disease.

Teams of amateur players battled it out to win the Murray’s Muscles 2009 Golfing Trophy at Gaudet Luce Golf Club in Droitwich. The event, sponsored by Tesco and local firm Aeromet International, took place last month in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

It was organised by friends and family of 11-year-old Worcester schoolboy Murray Field, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2005 and needs a specialist wheelchair to get about.

Murray’s mum Jane Field was on the winning team.

The next fund-raising tournament will take place on Sunday, September 26, next year. Anyone interested can call Tracey Macrow on 01905 772458.

Proceeds from the annual golfing event fund equipment for hundreds of children with muscle disease throughout the country.
