ROTARIANS planted nearly five times as many trees as they pledged to in a race against the clock.

Worcester Vigornia Rotary Club had expected to plant about 15 trees at a field at Hillcrest, Bromyard Road, Crown East, near Worcester, on Saturday for the Tree O’Clock world record bid.

Instead they planted 70 towards what organisers hope will break the world record for the number of trees planted in a single hour.

Participants from across the UK have to take photos of their trees and send them to organisers by Friday.

Helping plant the trees in Worcester were Worcestershire county cricket coach Steve Rhodes, Rotary district governor and former Worcester News editor Stewart Gilbert, Peter Fitzjohn of the Rotary Club of Worcester Severn, and his wife Sue, president of the Rotary Club of Worcester Vigornia.
