WHITTINGTON and District Women’s Institute held its annual meeting on Thursday, November 19. Suzanne Owen, our county adviser, was welcomed to the meeting. It was reported that Whittington had had a very successful year financially and had enjoyed an interesting and varied programme. After the essential business had been concluded, Suzanne Owen presided over the election of a new president as Helena Downham had decided to step down after nine years of devoted service.

Margaret Powell was chosen as our new president and after being handed the badge of office by Helena she thanked her most warmly, on behalf of all the members, for all that she had contributed to the WI over the past years and said that she would be a very difficult act to follow.

Helena was thanked with a round of applause and Margaret was welcomed as our new president before Owen closed the meeting with words of encouragement and exciting news about new institutes which had opened.

Whittington is a very happy institute and anyone who would like to attend a WI which meets in the afternoon would be made most welcome.
