KYLIE Minogue is set to help a charity ball raise extra cash for a new dedicated breast unit for patients battling cancer.

The ball will give people the chance to win a signed copy of the Aussie superstar’s DVD and raise money for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, the chosen charity of your Worcester News.

The event is taking place at Bowl Xtreme, off the main A38 Droitwich Road in Worcester, on Saturday, March 20, at 8pm.

The fund-raiser is being organised by Sarah Thompson and friends to raise funds for the campaign, which is raising £2.5 million for a new breast care unit at 220 Newtown Road on the site of the Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

Mrs Thompson, of St John’s, Worcester, said: “The reason we chose the charity was because my mum’s best friend had breast cancer. We have already sold 80 of the 100 tickets, so we’re nearly sold out.”

Your Worcester News has adopted the campaign, which has now raised more than £300,000, and will continue to support it until the fund-raising target has been reached.

The ball will be in a new function room, the Edgar Suite, and will include a performance of the Boogie Street band, followed by a disco and cabaret by the city’s Harlequin Stage School.

During the evening, which will be compered by BBC Hereford and Worcester’s Tony Fisher, there will be a raffle and auction with a number of exclusive prizes.

One of these is an authentic signed Showgirl DVD from Kylie. This item will be auctioned on the night but anyone who is unable to attend can make a silent bid.

Tickets are priced at £40 per person. For every table of 10 booked, Bowl Xtreme will give a free bottle of champagne.

The ticket price also includes welcome drinks, buffet and entertainment. All money raised will help to create a one-stop breast unit for the people of Worcestershire in more comfortable and convenient surroundings than the existing facilities, which are based in cramped clinics spread out across several floors in Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

People can make a donation by sending a cheque made payable to Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign at Charles Hastings Education Centre, Charles Hastings Way, Worcester WR5 1DD.
